Before Your Surgery
Preparing in advance can help prevent delays and support your safety.
Transportation and support
- Please arrange for an adult to drive you home from the hospital
- For outpatient procedures, an adult must remain with you for 24 hours after surgery
If you are unable to make these arrangements, please call us. We can reschedule your procedure for a time when these safety requirements are able to be met.
Take care of yourself
- Shower or bathe two days before, as well as the night before surgery to help minimize the chance of infection
- Contact us immediately if you become ill or experience any change in your health before surgery
- If you are or may be pregnant, please notify your surgeon immediately
Preoperative assessment
- You may receive a preoperative health assessment call from a nurse one to three days before your surgery
- Your surgeon and care team will provide instructions specific to your procedure
Eating and drinking
- Follow your surgeon’s instructions regarding eating and drinking prior to surgery
If you are unsure about fasting instructions, call the preoperative nurse at (509) 773-1057 before the day of your surgery.
Medications
- You will receive instructions from your surgeon and surgery nursing staff about medications that you take. It is crucial for your well-being that you follow these instructions accurately.
Self-care
- If you wear nail polish, please arrange for one finger on each hand to be entirely free of nail polish and any other artificial covering.
- Do not wear any makeup on your face.
