Death With Dignity

For Those in Washington

The Washington Death with Dignity Act (Initiative 1000), codified as RCW 70.245, was approved on November 4, 2008, and took effect on March 5, 2009.

The law allows certain terminally ill adults who are Washington residents to request a prescription for medication that they may self-administer. Eligibility requirements and safeguards apply, including that the patient is 18 or older and has a terminal condition with a life expectancy of six months or less.

Klickitat Valley Health providers do not prescribe Death with Dignity medications.
