What We Offer

The KVH Lab is licensed by the Washington Department of Health to perform moderate and high complexity testing in the subspecialties of microbiology, serology, hematology, immunohematology, and chemistry. Tests not performed at KVH laboratory are only referred to CLIA licensed referral laboratories.

The lab is under the supervision of a Pathologist who acts as the department medical director and oversees all of the policies, procedures and practices of the department. Day to day operations are supervised by the lab manager. The lab is staffed seven days per week, 24 hours per day by certified medical technologists/technicians in order to provide services to emergency department and patients admitted to the hospital.

The KVH Lab also provides clinical laboratory services to outpatients that have tests ordered by a licensed care practitioner.

Prepare For Lab Testing

Some tests require special patient preparation. Please check with your provider or the lab for any special instructions that may need to be followed prior to your test procedure.

Fasting

The most frequent preparation required for lab testing is patient fasting. Patients with tests that require fasting should not eat or drink anything other than water for 12 to 14 hours prior to collection. Common tests that require fasting include:

• Lipid Panel
• Fasting Glucose
• 3-hour Glucose Tolerance Test

Medications

Please continue to take all medications unless your Provider specifically instructs you to skip them for testing.

Things to AVOID Before Lab Testing

These all affect digestion and may affect your test results:

• Smoking
• Chew gum
• Exercise

Lab results are available via MyHealth or by contacting Medical Records.
